Newsletter
Contacts who signed up for news in your shops — where they come from, the export for mailing services, unsubscribing and erasing.
On this page
The newsletter is the list of people who gave you consent to e-mail them news. Monokaido collects them from your shops and keeps them together with the proof of that consent; the campaigns themselves you send from a mailing service you export the list to.
Where contacts come from
| Source | Where the customer does it | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Footer | The newsletter sign-up form in the shop footer, on every page. | In the storefront builder: Sections → Footer → Show the newsletter sign-up. On by default. |
| Home page section | The Newsletter section you add to the home page in the storefront builder. | Shown only if the shop design has it. |
| Customer account | The marketing e-mails checkbox (“I want to receive marketing emails” by default) in the profile of the customer account. | When the customer unticks it, the contact unsubscribes by itself. |
What the list shows
| Field | What it does | Note |
|---|---|---|
| The address the contact signed up with. | The search looks in it. | |
| Customer | The name, when someone with this e-mail has a customer account in your company. | The link opens the detail in Customers. A dash = a contact without an account. |
| Shop | The shop they signed up in. | “Deleted shop” means the shop (its access key) has been deleted since; the contact stays. |
| Language | The shop language at the time of signing up. | Useful for splitting campaigns by language. |
| Source | Footer, home page section or customer account. | See the table above. |
| Status | Subscribed or unsubscribed. | For an unsubscribed contact also when and by whom — the customer in their account, or someone in the admin. |
| Signed up | The date of signing up. |
The list opens on the subscribed contacts — the ones you may write to. The All / Subscribed / Unsubscribed tabs switch the status, and the numbers on them show how many contacts match the current search and shop. With more than one shop, the list can be narrowed to one.
Every shop has its own list
Consent is given to a particular shop. The same person can therefore sign up in two shops of your company and appear in the list twice — once per shop, each with its own status. Unsubscribing in one shop does not unsubscribe them from the other.
Export to a mailing service
Export CSV downloads newsletter-subscribers.csv with the e-mail, first
name, last name, language, shop, status, source and the sign-up and
unsubscribe dates. Mailchimp, Ecomail, MailerLite, Brevo and other services
import the file.
Unsubscribing and erasing
A contact cannot be added by hand or subscribed again from the admin. A new subscription needs the person's own consent, and they give it only in the shop.
| Action | What it does | Who can do it |
|---|---|---|
| Unsubscribe | The contact stays in the list as unsubscribed and is never exported as subscribed again. If they have a customer account, its consent to marketing e-mails is withdrawn too. | Editor and Admin. For example when the customer asks by phone. |
| Delete permanently | Removes the e-mail and the whole consent record. Cannot be undone. | Admin only. When the person asks for their data to be erased (GDPR). |
A Viewer sees the list and can export it, but gets no row actions. Roles are set in Team.
What is stored as proof of consent
For every sign-up Monokaido stores when the person signed up, in which shop and language, through which form (the source), the exact consent wording they were shown, their IP address and their browser. This shows that they gave the consent themselves, and it is erased only together with the contact on a permanent delete.
The list is empty although the shop is live.
Check that the shop runs on Storefront v2 and that its design has the footer form or the section. A classic shop has no form; its contacts come only from customers who tick marketing e-mails in their account.
I unsubscribed a customer by mistake.
You cannot subscribe them again from the admin — they have to sign up again themselves in the shop, with the form or in their account.
Why is the same e-mail in the list twice?
They signed up in two shops. Each shop has its own consent and status.
